Ken-jutsu section

To meet the growing interest in samurai culture, in 2000 the Ken-Jutsu section was established at the Mamochi Ryu school. Ken jutsu is a Japanese sword fighting art. At the Mamochi ryu school the use of the katana sword is taught. The studied techniques include: nuki uchi - quick sword drawings, uchi - cuts, tsuki - thrusts, uke - blocks, etc. Advanced students also develop other martial arts related to bu-jutsu. Compulsory classes include: polearm classes (bo, naginata, yari), archery (kyu jutsu), and unarmed fighting (tai jutsu). All this creates a quite demanding system in which only a few people achieve mastery after many years of training.

At the Tanto school, another school of sword fighting is also taught during ken-jutsu classes. Sensei Zbigniew Karalus is one of the heirs of Toshimichi Takeuchi's Soke family school. As part of the training, he introduces adepts to the secrets of Toshimichi Takeuchi's sword fighting.
